Abbreviated NewsGroup Names

Is there a way to change the name of the newsgroups as they are 
displayed on my folder window in the Moz 1.4 news reader? I'm trying to 
eliminate the abbreviated names that Moz comes up with. I have applied 
the "user_pref("mail.server.default.abbreviate",false);" line to my 
user.js but that only partially helps. The names are still abbreviated 
unless I size the folder window large enough. If I could figure out how 
to shorten the names displayed on my system that would do it.
I've tried to use the "Rename Folder" option seen when right-clicking on 
a group name but that does not work.

Another option would be to do what OE does and that is to add a 
horizontal scroll bar to the folder window. That way abbreviations are 
not forced and the user can use the scroll bar to center names in the 
window. Is there an option to add a horizontal scroll bar to the folder 
window in the Moz 1.4 (or NS) newsreader?
