With that testcase I get for the text element in the latest trunk build:
text
dumpObject:[object ClientRect]
top:487
right:132
bottom:506
left:100
width:32
height:19

I get that same result in Firefox3.1 from a 2009-01-16 build.
So my guess is that Firefox3.1b2 had some bug that made those wrong
values to be returned.
Perhaps you could retest yourself in the latest 1.9.1 build?
