Having to hit refresh to modify my searches...

For a couple months now, I've noticed that if I go to a link that was
a search result and then click back to go back to the results, the
search text field is empty until I hit refresh on the browser.  This
is incredibly frustrating.  Are there any plans to fix this, or is the
NEW Google?

Between this behavior, destroying the functionality of the hyphen to
group words together, and bringing up pages that don't contain all the
words I searched for, I'm considering switching to another search
engine.
