I've always used this article as a reminder of why the Web is great: http://shaver.off.net/diary/2007/05/10/the-high-cost-of-some-free-tools/ - SVG Fonts can be analyzed by View Source - SVG Fonts can be edited in a text editor (for removing or adding specific glyphs) - SVG Fonts glyphs can be inspected/tweaked in Firebug These are the same reasons that I prefer SVG over Canvas actually (though I acknowledge that Canvas has some really good use cases, I just wouldn't ever want to try and build, say SVG-edit, using Canvas).
