Hi Jeremie, and thanks for your answer (et Heureux d'avoir un
collègue !) !

I hoped more people could have answered, so I waited a little...

but it seems that's not the case, maybe I should try on another
list.

To answer you, I don't think than starting such an action without
Mozilla is a good solution... and we both know that there are tons
of webdesigners interested, as we can read in the bug
report , or in comments on articles like
this one . I also know that members of the Libre graphics
meetings community are interested.

Honestly, I'm not worried about raising fund... I'm more worried
about Mozilla reaction to such a proposal.

For Kickstarter, I agree, but it seems that it can't be used outside
of the U.S.A., so I bet more for Pledgie... but it's similar.

If you have more ideas on the subject, please share ;)

Cheers,

Camille

Hi,
I'm a french graphic and web designer, working with FOSS softwares, including Inkscape....
I'm new to this list, I've just subscribed to launch once again a good old hot topic : SVG Fonts.
I know there are pro and cons for SVG Fonts, I am personally pro, as you may have readin the corresponding bugzilla bug report.
I don't want to launch again here a lengthy debate about the need for Mozilla to implement SVG Fonts or not, or trolling, or anything similar...
My point here is : there are some designer around the world (including me) who dream to have SVG fonts on the web, but aren't able to implement it in Firefox because they don't know coding. On other hand, SVG Fonts aren't a priority for Mozilla.
So, if you are interested in receiving patchs, maybe we can fund-raise such a development online (pledgie, etc.)... But it can't be done without your approval and goodwill.
May I respectfully ask you if such a project sound welcome to you ?
In such a perspective, I have some more questions :
Who to hire, and at what cost ? Anyone interested on this list ?
Do Mozilla Foundation accept donation from such campaigns ?
My Best Regards,
Camille Bissuel (aka yagraph)

Hello Camille

I'm exactly in the same situation as you are (even the french part!).
I agree that as long as Mozilla could not allow it's own resources to
that part of the SVG implementation, it's a good idea to try to raise
funds to pay someone who have the required skills to do it.

I have ideas on who to ask to answer your questions about hiring and
making donation. But before that I think it's important to check if
there are people interesting in such an action.
I think that first it could be a good idea to spread the idea and
starting to see if there is other web designers ok to be part of that
project.

To raise the funds, It could be interesting to use some places such as
Kickstarter to centralize the effort (and the money).

To see if others have ideas or inputs :)

Cheers
