Firefox and javascript problems

I have problems in accessing Java enabled Internet banking sites with 
Firefox 1.0PR on Linux.

On one site, I get a Javascript Application window which says "Please 
wait for the applet to load" On another it says "An applet required to 
access online services did not load correctly...."

On Mozilla 1.6, I don't faced this problem. Mozilla and Firefox on 
Windows work as well.

I can't get help from the banks as they only support Netscape and IE on 
Windows only.

Any ideas why this problem exists for Firefox on Linux only?

BTW, I'm using Java(TM) Plug-in 1.4.2_06-b03.
