You should have said that earlier ;-\

Being a *lot* more selective about which files to make world-writeable, or at
least writeable by some specific (non-root) user, would help a lot here.
Using a user ID which is reserved for this kind of thing helps even more: if
something *does* go seriously wrong, the _potential_ for damage is
significantly restricted.
