Can Mozilla mail or Thunderbird play embedded midi's?

Using Mandrake 10.0 linux:
I can visit a website using Mozilla 1.73, and if there is a midi 
embedded (or object) the browser can play it using Plugger, or by 
setting TiMidity as a helper application. However, if I receive an email 
or read a newsgroup post containing an HTML link to a midi file, the 
player is not launched from either Mozilla Mail or Thunderbird.
Is there a way to set up Mozilla Mail to recognize and play midi's?
