The problem is solved. Thanks; something you suggested pointed out the problem. Running it from the terminal worked just fine. Running it from the panel icon did not. So... logically, the problem resides in something that the panel icon does differently than the terminal command. KDE wants to start everything within soundwrapper. It's a stupid user interface thing to make pretty noises when you open or close a window. Totally unnecessary. Removing that from the panel icon's properties fixed it. Obviously the conflict was there. Anybody care to add this to either KDE's or Firefox's bugzilla, feel free. I don't have a bugzilla account. Probably not worth it to submit it to KDE; Mandr* 10.1 download version comes with 3.2, no longer the latest stable version.
