See

I know that /usr/lib is on Solaris' default search path.

I reinstalled the following packages:
SUNWmoznav
SUNWGtkr
SUNWGtku
The problem persists. I also set environment variable LD_DEBUG to
"reloc" to display relocation processing:
...
00776: 1: ld.so.1: /usr/sfw/lib/mozilla/mozilla-bin: fatal:
libiconv.so.2: open failed: No such file or directory
00776: 1:

00776: 1: ld.so.1: /usr/sfw/lib/mozilla/mozilla-bin: fatal: relocation
error: file /usr/sfw/lib/mozilla/mozilla-bin: symbol gtk_init:
referenced symbol not found
00776: 1:
ld.so.1: /usr/sfw/lib/mozilla/mozilla-bin: fatal: relocation error: file
/usr/sfw/lib/mozilla/mozilla-bin: symbol gtk_init: referenced symbol not
found
Killed
...
Note the earlier problem with libiconv.so.2. It is true that that shared
object is missing from /usr/lib but I don't know what package it is in,
in order to reinstall it.
By the way, this is Solaris 9 4/04 for SPARC with Mozilla Suite 1.4.
I nondestructively (i.e. "upgrade") reinstalled Solaris and the problem
persists!
Mozilla had been functional. The problem seems to have begun when I
attempted to install ("make install" as root) a program called ffmpeg, a
prerequisite for the following Sun-suggested DVD video player solution:
