Somehow, I managed to screw things up with Mozilla so I 'recycled' my preferences directory (renamed ~/.mozilla to ~/.mozilla_broken) and restarted Mozilla. Now the Emacs like bindings are back. I did managed to recover my bookmarks and am in the process of re-creating my stored passwords. So I guess there is something deep in the heart of the stuff under ~/.mozilla that controls the key-bindings (for text entry areas). And it does not seem to be documented anywhere.
