There are very few (if any) modern GUI mail clients that don't impose
their view of where to store mail on you rather than using the
existing file system 'as is'.  I have been looking for a GUI mail
reader to use in parallel with mutt (non GUI but excellent) to view
the occasional mail message where a GUI reader would make things
easier.  I have yet to find any mail client that can read a normal
Linux/Unix hierarchy of mailboxes (as created by mutt) and/or doesn't
spew its own index files and other clutter all over the place.

(I also use Solaris, my desktop system at work is a Solaris box, I use
mutt there as well, no GUI mail client I have yet found is as good)
