If you download Mozilla from http://www.mozilla.org and install it -- 
pay attention, the basic install doesn't include the spelling checker, 
you need to select the "complete" option -- you'll have the spell check.

You will need to fiddle around with plug ins, though -- the download 
from  Mozilla does not include those and you need to install them 
separately (there are instructions in the Help drop down, about plug-ins).
