I just had that same problem today. Spent hours in thunderbirds
"prefs.js" file trying to add links that didn't work.
Ex:
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.ftp",
"/Your/Location/FireFox-1.5/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http",
"/Your/Location/FireFox-1.5/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https",
"/Your/Location/FireFox/FireFox-1.5");
It ended up being when you update Firefox and click to make it your
default browser, Gnome doesn't use the new default, so ThunderBird trys
starting the older version. What fixed it for me was a simple reboot.
I probably could of just logged out and in again.
