If you need DUPLICATE-functionality at all, it doesn't make much sense
in my opiniion to re-implement what is already available. You'll only
break default workflow of Bugzilla and functionality that way, need to
maintain those DUPLICATE-field "forever" etc.

You should more carefully read my former answers about how to properly
customize Bugzilla and decide on your own if you want to customize the 
skin to remove/hide that field, the templates or create an extension.
If I was you, I would most likely prefer customizing the skin
currently.
