oAuth2 required to send email from gmail account

I've encountered this issue on other programs as well a few years ago, 
and I see the same thing now in bugzilla apparently (first time 
installation of bugzilla for "hobby" use).
It all boils down to the point that I keep getting authentication 
failure after looking five times at my mail settings in bugzilla - copy 
- paste from thunderbird where all goes well as I can configure the use 
of oAuth2 there.

Any way out???
