Does the UserChrome.css work on the portable version for FireFox? I have put
this in my UserChrome.css (which didn't exist with the portable version I have
and nothing changes.  Just wondering.

You increase/decrease the size of the Search box itself.

Add this to your UserChrome.css file located in your profile /chrome/
directory: Change 300 to whatever size you want in pixels.

 /* Make the Search box flex wider */
#search-container {
   -moz-box-flex: 300 !important;
}
