Mozilla 1.7.5 installation on Win98se

Hi everyone,
I tried to install Moz 1.7.5 on a win98se PC after uninstalling the
previous version 1.6.

I made sure I had removed the entire directory.

After that I disabled the anti-virus and double-click on the installer.
I did not get anything; the mouse pointer showed its busy for a while
and then stopped.  No hdd or cpu activity at all.

Then I tried to run the installer exe from command prompt.  There were
no error message - the prompt returned quietly.

I am at lost now.  I need to get this machine up on the internet
quickly (IE is out of the question of course!).
Any advice/tips/suggestions is most welcome.
