You're talking hardware here - I was talking OS or software.

Again, you're talking hardware here and I was talking software. Now I 
know that Mac's basic underlying OS os Unix at it's core so I'd expect 
it to be able to remain in operation longer than Windows, but I don't 
think it'd be up any longer than any other Unix system (sans hardware 
problems).

Tell ya what - turn on your Mac and keep it up. Write back in 5 years to 
let us know how you're doing! ;-)
