Composer inserting blank lines into html source

Preferences set Composer -> "Retain Original source formatting"

This is not critical, since blank lines don't mean anything in html, but it is 
annoying when trying to keep the file readable. It seems to happen whenever a 
file is saved and re-opened. Over time there are big vertical gaps in the file.

Is this a bug or what?
