Add to user.js file:

// Don't abbreviate newsgroup names
user_pref("mail.server.default.abbreviate", false);

Or, enter about:config in browser location bar, hit Enter.  In Filter 
bar enter abbreviate, wait for the list to filter, right-click the pref, 
choose Modify, enter false, click OK.
