XML, UTF and CVS question

Hi all, I know that it is a bit strange to ask this here, but couldn't find a better place... I'm working on a project with UTF-16 encoded XML files. I tried to put those files under source control using CVS. It doesn't work - apparently CVS cannot handle Unicode files. Anyone tried to use a source control system (open-source) with Unicode text files? Thanx, Adrian.
