Are there multiple APIs for writing javascript browser resident SOAP clients
in Mozilla/Netscape?

I downloaded the nightly build for Mozilla yesterday and I cannot get any
examples to work. Is
http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/javascript/synd/2002/08/30/mozillasoapapi.html?page=5
describing an older API and
http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/extensions/xmlextras/tests/xpost.html
exemplifying a newer and somewhat Microsoft compatible API that does the
same thing?

How do I decide which one to use?
