	I tried to validate the layout.xsl output of the input.xml file in 
version0.7beta.  I got an error:
"unexpected attribute ref in element input".
Checking the XHTML DTD

-//W3//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" 
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd

there is indeed no ref in input.
??
