ist this the right newsgroup for questions about xpi programming?

If there is so:

I have a question on xul programming for mozilla

messagepane=getMessageBrowser();
text=messagepane.editorShell.editorSelection;

Give me the selected text in a composer windows.
But how can I get the selected text in a messenger windows in mozilla
mail/news?
