Okay to delete chrome.rdf

I asked this question a few days ago, but got not response.
Let me pose the question a little differently.

Is it safe to delete mozilla/chrome/chrome.rdf as a way to
force mozilla to re-read the chrome/installed-chrome.txt file?

Mozilla automatically detects when you add a new line to the 
installed-chrome.txt file, but deleteing chrome.rdf is the only way I've 
found to force it to detect edited lines in installed-chrome.txt.

It seems to work for me, but I'd like to know if this is something that 
is okay to do, something that is likely to continue to work in future 
releases...

Anyone know about this?
