I am happy to announce Enigmail v3.0 for Interlink Mail & News and Postbo=
x.

Please note that Enigmail 3.0 does not support Thunderbird.

Major Changes since v2.1
------------------------

This release introduces a new backend that allows to use different
OpenPGP implementations. Currently, OpenPGP.js (natively built into
Enigmail) and GnuPG are supported. By default, if GnuPG is found and at
least one private key is available in GnuPG, then GnuPG will be used for
crypto-operations. If GnuPG is not found or seems unused, then
OpenPGP.js will be used. OpenPGP.js is included in Enigmail and does not
require any further downloads.

The OpenPGP.js implementation of Enigmail contains a very simple trust
model. Any new key is trusted by default. If you don't want to trust a
key, you can distrust it (which acts similarly to disabling a key in
GnuPG). I might add something like TOFU in a future version of Enigmail,
but that's not yet decided. If you require a more sophisticated trust
model, you should use the GnuPG backend instead.

Future versions of Enigmail will support additional OpenPGP
implementations, such as SOP. In particular, the current GnuPG backend
that accessed gpg directly will be replaced with functionality that
requires gpgme-json. Enigmail will no longer directly access GnuPG for
crypto- functions.
