Oh yes! I can quite safely look at the plain text or HTML parts of

companies are totally aware that they are _sending_ two-part emails - 
and in some cases they contain entirely different content. Not just 
something dumb and insulting in the text part - such as "we tried to 
send HTML (pictures and text) but couldn't, click here to read as 
webpage", but sometimes completely wrong. One company - I think it was 
FindMyPast, a genealogy company - sent newsletters, in which the plain 
text part froze for many months - I was wondering why they were telling 
me about special offers with only a day to run, or eventually, that had 
already expired.]
