Does https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1277002 help? 
Specifically, the pointer to 
https://github.com/mozilla/policy-templates/blob/master/README.md#disableappupdate%29; 
(look for AppAutoUpdate).
I hardly ever use Windows and the whole update process is handled 
differently under Linux.
