HONG KONG BAPTIST UNIVERSITY Faculty Positions (Fall 2005) - Department of Computer Science The Department of Computer Science seeks outstanding applicants for Associate Professor/Assistant Professor positions (depending on qualifications), and invites applications for Lecturer/Instructor positions (depending on qualifications) starting Fall 2005. The department, with 15 faculty members, presently offers B.Sc., M.Sc., M.Phil, and Ph.D. programs. 1. Associate Professor/Assistant Professor (PR070/04-05) Duties and responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching, teaching program management, high-impact research, and professional or institutional services. Candidates are expected to closely collaborate with other colleagues in research and teaching in this collegial environment. Applicants should have extensive knowledge and/or experience in at least one of the following areas: information systems theories and practice, IT management, bioinformatics, information security, and digital media communications. Exceptional applicants in other areas of computer science and information systems, such as intelligent informatics, pattern recognition, and networking and multimedia will also be considered. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, and demonstrate a strong commitment to the undergraduate and graduate teaching in computer science and/or information systems at all levels, with track record in innovative research and high-impact publications, and evidence of ability to bid for and pursue externally funded research programs. Terms of Appointment: Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include contribution by the University to a retirement benefits scheme and/or a gratuity payable upon satisfactory completion of contract, annual leave, medical & dental benefits for appointee and family and housing assistance where applicable. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. 2. Lecturer/Instructor (PR071/04-05) Duties and responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching and teaching program development in the areas of information systems methodology, IT management, systems analysis and design, IT professional practice, databases, theory of computation, computer graphics and animation, programming languages and paradigms, software engineering, and information security. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, and demonstrate a strong commitment to, as well as extensive experience in, teaching courses in computer science and/or information systems at different levels. Terms of Appointment: Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include contribution by the University to a retirement benefits scheme and/or a gratuity payable upon satisfactory completion of contract, annual leave, medical & dental benefits for appointee and family where applicable.
