Senior Software Engineer for Linux
Summary
Are you a talented software engineer with a long-standing commitment to
developing software for the Linux platform? The team is looking for a
highly motivated software engineer to take ownership for the Linux
version of the Flash Player. In this challenging position, you will
become a key member of a highly collaborative team that is dedicated to
building a software platform that delivers media-rich web applications
and user interfaces. This is a highly visible position for a software
engineer who has the ambition and commitment to help us deliver the
next generation technology to a global user community that current
includes over four hundred million people.
Key Responsibilities
* Take full ownership for porting, enhancing, and optimizing the
product for Linux.
* Write software that realizes our product designs given tight
constraints on code size, performance, backward-compatibility, and
portability.
* Take responsibility for software quality by working closely with
the QA team to ensure high quality and a consistent cross-platform
experience.
* Maintain a close connection to the open-source community.
Evaluate the trends and emerging technologies to ensure our software
satisfies the needs of this diverse community.
Requirements
* Very fluent in C/C++ in the Linux environment; able to write high
performance desktop software that is both compact and efficient.
* Technology expertise in the areas of computer graphics,
multimedia playback, and/or networking.
o Strong experience with building user interfaces with GTK,
using the FreeType font engine.
o Experience with audio technology including ESD, ALSA, aRts,
and OSS.
o Well versed with POSIX threads and the latest NPTL (Native
Posix Thread Library).
o Should understand Unix signals and its interaction with
threads.
o Proven experience with the Unix/Linux networking and i/o
API's.
* Knowledgeable of the various Linux distributions including
RedHat, Debian, Mandrake, SuSE, Slackware, and TurboLinux.
* Demonstrable background in shipping successful software products.
Played an instrumental role in all phases of the software development
lifecycle.
* Effective communication skills. Able to clearly articulate
complex problems and solutions in terms that others can understand.
* Strong sense of accountability in meeting commitments and
achieving results.
* Committed to working on challenging projects with aggressive
schedules. Must be capable of multi-tasking.
Ideal
* A history of making significant contributions to open-source
projects.
* Experience with virtual machine technology and/or embedded
systems.
* Knowledge of X Window system and ideally extensions to XFree86
such as the Xv (X Video Extension) and DRI (direct rendering
infrastructure)
* Experience with the Netscape Plug-in API.
Education and Experience
* BS in Computer Science or related field.
* 5 or more years experience in software engineering. 7 or more
years desired.
