Hello localizers,

A last minute and top priority project has come up, that we’d like to
communicate to you since it has an impact on localization, as there
are new Fennec features and strings landing very late in the cycle.

You may have heard about the EU ballot, and the announcement Google
has recently made to implement a new browser choice screen to Android
users in Europe. You can read more about this here:
https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2019/04/18/android-browser-choice-screen-in-europe/
and
https://www.blog.google/around-the-globe/google-europe/presenting-search-app-and-browser-options-android-users-europe/

As you know Fennec hasn’t been updated in a while, mainly because of
the focus on Fenix browser development. However this is a great
opportunity for Mozilla to attract new users on mobile, and we have to
react quickly.

This unfortunately means strings are landing very late in the cycle,
in order to ship with 67. As you can see, Firefox for Android now has
regained its 5 stars, top-priority mark, on Pontoon.

You may also notice suggestions in Pontoon from staff members, or
changes to the Play Store content. Please keep an eye out for those,
and reach out if you have any questions.

We don’t know exactly when Google will start displaying the ballot
screen, but we want to be ready for this on time. While the main focus
is on EU locales, note these new features will be enabled for all
languages.

Please stay tuned for what’s going to come up. We’ll keep you posted
here as usual, of course, and as soon as we know more.

Thanks a lot for your understanding and help with this.

Cheers
