Errors NS_BASE_STREAM_CLOSED

Using mandrake linux(9.1) with mozilla 1.3 and latest mozblog. 

When I synchronize I get: 
Making new posts...Error! (80470002) Component returned failure code:
0x80470002 (NS_BASE_STREAM_CLOSED) [nsIScriptableInputStream.available]

and the posts never seem to come in. However, publishing still works, but
provides the same errors. Errors are reported in the Warning triangle
tabbed window - Just for info-- not sure if this is crucial.
