Yeah, I had to think about this one a little bit. I think it may have
something to do with the active window manager. I test with metacity and
occasionally beryl and even less frequently kwm. I've seen cases where
even the vo chosen in mplayer also affects stuff like that. I normally
use x11 as it works with everything and on my machine it is relatively
fast. Sometimes I'll switch to xv if I get some HD videos that are
problems.
