Thanks so much for your help. Here are the two strings from about:config in Firefox. What am I doing wrong, please?

network.protocol-handler.app.mms user set  string  /usr/bin/gnome-mplayer
network.protocol-handler.app.rtsp user set string  /usr/bin/gnome-mplayer
