I tested this on my machine with FireFox 2.0.0.5 (latest on Fedora 7)
and CVS of the plugin which has only these two changes

Turn volume down by pressing 9 and up by pressing 0
Add the ability to set the onClick callback via a javascript method

And I am unable to duplicate the crash. Can you create a test case for
me or perhaps some debug output? Set debug=1 in the mplayerplug-in.conf
file. And run firefox from a terminal and you should see some output.

Things to try:

Set the vo to x11
Remove other plugins, BTW what plugins do you have installed?
See if you can get it to crash another way
BTW what OS are you using?
3.45 had some decent testing for once
