Wont *read* history

I am not sure this is Multizilla related.

Recently (and this is where Multizilla comes in) I have been unable to
read my history.  I think Multizilla is the most obvious change.

I can clear it.  I can see it being updated, but it is does not seem to
be reading it.

I did find it pointing to an old .netscape directory (my profile is
probably germinated 7 years ago).

Currently

in my .mozilla directory:  grep -i hist *js
old_preferences.js:user_pref("browser.history_file", "/home/zot/.netscape/history.db");
old_preferences.js:user_pref("browser.user_history_file", "/home/zot/.netscape/history.list");
old_preferences.js:user_pref("history.outliner_geometry", "388x(6)title:145;location:225;firstVisited:86;lastVisited:86;expires:86;visitCount:53;");

ls -lrt his*
-rw-r--r--    1 zot      zot           420 Oct  9  2001 history.list

So now, it not being updated.

I deleted the file references from the *js files, to see what happened:

ls -l *js
-rw-rw-r--    1 zot      zot          7925 Oct  9  2001 liprefs.js
-rw-rw-r--    1 zot      zot         11821 Oct  9  2001 old_preferences.js
-rw-rw-r--    1 zot      zot         11332 Sep  1 11:11 preferences.js

-rw-rw-r--    1 zot      zot          1292 Mar 23 20:00 user.js

Clearly it stopped updating.

>From a clean (working) profile:

grep -rli his* ~/.mozilla_clean/default/SALT.slt/*
is empty.

Any Ideas?  strace did not help me much.....
