This has got nothing to do with google. It's a Multizilla setting that 
has been in place for ages. Basically, when you open a link from a 
bookmark or an in-p0age link it checks whether that page is already 
open. If it is - and the option is enabled - it switches to the 
corresponding tab or - if not - opens up a new tab.
