The way I do it is via the middle mouse button. I've just gotten used to
opening things this way. It works for bookmarks and for links on pages.
To set this, either:
1. In about:config, set browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick to true; or
2. In the Preferences UI under Browser | Tabbed Browsing | Open tabs
instead of windows for > Middle-click, Ctrl+click or Ctrl+Enter on
links in a Web page.
