Actually I am dissappointed that the UI team aims to change user expectations. In general this type of thinking leads to the division of the user base. Some will just ignore it and others will dislike and fight it. The result is something like ribbons for the Office. Something that has to be accepted but has at the same time the potential to drive many long term user away from the product. User interfaces should aim to integrate different aspects / conventions by offering different ways to use the product. From this discussion I just get the impression that the decision is made and we have to accept it.
