In those cases, I would merely display a version number. If the version number does get hidden, I wouldn't display any special warning at all.

My reasoning is that we are talking about workstations that are taken care of by an administrator, so displaying such warning messages to end users would be equal to spreading FUD.

The only logical premise here would be that these machines ARE taken care of by the said admin and that the browser should not undermine his authority. Such warning messages could prompt users to make unnecessary support requests, complain over the admin's work, etc.
