What's wrong with:

You are currently running the most recent stable release of Firefox
(version 7). Have a nice day :-)

Or words to that effect? Why can't we provide the reassurance which
everyone seems to think is a good idea, and also the number so that
users can answer the above use case, and ones like it?

We can hope the tech press talks about our releases in a different way,
but until the majority of them do, we shouldn't jump the gun and make it
harder to find the referent they are using.
