You are right.

Minor releases should be just for bug and security fixing (example: from 
3.6.18 to 3.6.20) and this could be automatic.

Major release should be released just to introduce new features, and 
this should NOT be an automatic update.

The concept of continous updates breaks this "old" abit and I don't see 
a clear reason to go in this direction.
Production software give one or two major releases for year, and this is 
enough in my opnion.
