Re: Removing Firefox Version Number

All I can say is in the wacky world of Mozilla it seems ignorance is bliss.

To my knowledge I have never ever heard of a case of an ordinary user panic because they fear that Firefox might or might not be out of date. They wait for it to tell them that an update is available or wait for their system admin to patch it for them if they are in a corporate environment. Simple as that.

In fact I worked for a major corporation in the payment processing industry that was slowly transitioning to Firefox yet wanted to strictly control the updates that got to it and thus required the end user (who 9 times out of 10 was barely computer literate beyond using outlook and excel) to report what version of Firefox they had. 

Simply put I believe removing the easy option of navigating to help and then about would be immensely unhelpful to system admin and those computer literate people living in a family full of very computer illiterate people. I never knew forcing corporate IT departments back into the welcoming arms of Microsoft and IE8/9 was a long term strategy goal of Mozilla.

On a final note why exactly is this change needed? At a time when users are crying out for a faster and more convenient browsing experience, better integration with social media and cross platform features Mozilla has managed to sweep all of that aside and set the subject of the debate solely on what should and should not be in the about section? How exactly is that helpful or even relevant to developers or the end user?

Quit re-arranging the deck chairs and focus on how to make Firefox REALLY better because this has backfired. Big time.
