The point of a version is to uniquely identify a specific release. When it fails to disambiguate different releases, it's worthless, forcing you to perform the following arcane procedure to get the real version: open about:buildconfig, open the changeset uri on hg.mozilla.org, and note the most recent (among several) release tag (e.g. FIREFOX_7_0b1_RELEASE). Help->about used to suffice in 3.6.
