Asa, Having read this entire thread, I'd like to say a couple of things: First, thanks to others exploring your points without being you (and therefore being tainted by a preconception of condescension), you've convinced me that removing the version number from About Firefox isn't really a problem. I can just treat Troubleshooting as "About The Program (for power users)" and About as "About The Project (for novices)". The real issue is that, as some people argued vehemently while trying to justify keeping the version number, you didn't wait until people were used to the rapid release schedule, so people latch onto the idea that your insistence on removing the version number now rather than later is proof that it's a measure to help sneak in another unpopular measure (rapid release schedule). Second, I agree that the rapid release schedule is really what has a lot of people up in arms and I can see only two truly valid complaints to it: 1. We need some kind of mechanism for rolling back rapid releases so we can just let them happen normally without getting tons of grief when, by sheer power of probability, we eventually find ourselves in another "Firefox 5 breaks TiddlyWiki import/sync" situation. (On that one, I'm just glad the download URLs for Firefox 5 were easy to edit into valid download URLs for the newest point release of Firefox 4) The issue thread for that problem is at https://github.com/TiddlyWiki/tiddlywiki/issues/38 in case anyone's curious, by the way. 2. There has to be a well-publicized replacement for "ye olde slow- track release notes" (at the very least, for all new features, major and minor) for people like me who are too overworked and prone to distraction to drink from the Planet Mozilla firehose without drowning themselves. Solving those issues, making the solutions well-known, and clarifying the roles of About and Troubleshooting should address every rational, non-enterprise complaint that I remember reading. NOTE: As I only have Thunderbird set up for GMane usenet and wasn't sure if you can use it to post to this group, this is being posted from my "Lots of spam is expected. Auto-filter all Inbox to Trash" GMail account. Replies not sent to the group will not be read. (I have one Google account for mail and another for any Google service which doesn't let me hide behind SpamGourmet)
