This should be moved to an about:config setting.  Anyone who has legitimate
reasons to not update will have the technical skills to navigate
about:config.

Sticking with a release "they like" sets up catastrophic usability problems:
when the user finally does upgrade they have to adapt to 10x the number of
changes.

Everything on my computer is set to manual updates. I insist upon this
ability to control my own computer and how it operates. This is the first
setting I check whenever I review or install new software. If it is not
available and easy to find, the software gets uninstalled. Putting it in
about:config would make it available only to techies, contrary to what I and
*most* users want!
