I just tried this on the Mac, and due to the way Lion lets you resize
windows from any edge, I had to resort to the DOM Inspector to get my
folder pane back, so I heartily agree. We should be able to get it
fixed as part of bug 609245.

As of Thunderbird 6, the Quick Filter Bar is toggleable in View »
Toolbars » Quick Filter Bar. :)

By "optional", do you mean that you can toggle it on and off, because
you can already do that… (Or do you mean something else?)

What sort of things on the Quick Filter Bar are duplicates of things on
your menu bar? I didn't think that we had the capability to filter
things from the menu bar…

Thanks,
