1. Just how far back would you expect the backward compatibility to go? 
  Back to Windows 3.1, or Mac OS 2, maybe?  There has to be a limit to 
that because operating system structures change.

2. You can already check for updates for the application and for 
add-ons.  For beta versions I do not see much point, though, because 
beta versions are likely to change more dramatically than final releases.

3. There is an install button for add-ons.  After you drag the file to 
the window, there is a short delay, then the install button becomes active.

4. A splash screen simply wastes time and resources.  I would not want one.

5. If you want to back up your cookies, you can do so quite easily. 
Just search for cookies.sqlite for the FF3 branch or cookies.txt for 
older versions, and copy to whatever path you like.  Cookies do expire, 
so they have to be renewed once in a while anyway.

6. What is console squared?  I have never heard of it and it is probably 
not an add-on that everybody (or anywhere near everybody) would want. 
Putting in tools that very few people would use would just cause bloat 
of the application and slow it down.
