Any chance to get Thunderbird able to read Unix mailboxes?

... as Netscape did, many years ago, if I remember well. On a (slow &
overloaded) Linux system, I have to run Dovecot POP3 services just
because I prefer reading my mails into TB rather than in Mutt, but I'm
the only one who uses this service (so I also have to setup the
firewall for nobody tries to use the pop3 service from the network)...

On the other hand, it might be useful in the Windows version of TB,
too -- for people (whose I am) who will set an Exim server in Cygwin
(for example) in order to get all their mails from the Net with
fetchmail in order to read the messages at home, later, disconnected
from the Internet... (Or people who would like to read their mail from
a Samba server, either... no need to manage pop3 services and such
things...)
